  7. Once you start a "great" book you can't stop thinking about it.....you can't wait to finish it but once you finish it... you are sad and wish the book had been longer. :)

  8. A great book is one that features compelling characters that I can relate to who interact with one another realistically, as well as a storyline that is so interesting I keep wanting to read one more chapter.

  9. I think what makes a great book are their compelling story. The plot of the story has to catch the readers attention. Of course, the characters need to be amazing and wicked awesome! Thank you for this amazing chance! :)

  13. Amazing characters and a great story where I can get lost in their world and get out of mine for a while. One that keeps me awake late at night because I just have to finish one more chapter. Thank you.

  14. The characters along with really good writing.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think that the characters really make the story and also how the author creates the settings and the characters.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Good question! I think creating characters that make the reader care about them (love or hate).

    ReplyDelete
  17. A book that holds your attention all the time so you can't put it down.

    ReplyDelete
  18. A great book to me grabs you from the start and makes you get so invested in the characters and plot that when you finally reach the end you have to read it all over again. The book leaves a lasting mark on you and you never forget the characters nor their journey because you grew with them and they felt like a part of you. At least to me that's how it is. :)

  19. A great book is one you don't want to put down and can see yourself reading again when your done. Great story lines and well designed characters,

  20. I think it's probably a combination between good characters, a good storyline and good writing. If two of these are missing in a book that I'm reading, it's enough to make me quit reading it.

  21. Something that captures your interest, makes you think, and leaves you wanting more by the time you get to the end.

    ReplyDelete
  22. What makes a good book is when you can't put it down and it catches your attention at the very beginning.

  23. My biggest criteria is that I have to care about the characters enough to care about what happens to them. Whether I agree with an ending or not (cough cough Allegiant cough), if I'm invested in the story enough to have an opinion, then the author did something right. Books with characters that just make you go meh are not good enough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Great characters in a good setting.

    ReplyDelete
  25. characters that make you care about what happens to them

    ReplyDelete
  26. I know this is a popular choice, but I need to connect with the main characters enough that I care what happens to them, to be sad if something bad happens and happy when something good happens to them and if it's a series its even more important. A good storyline and writing style is important too. I also really like books that have some sort of happy ending it doesn't have to be perfect, but I don't really like dark or depressing books.

  27. For me it's characters first, then an intriguing plot and setting and engaging style!

  28. Characters! That is certainly not the only thing that is important, but it is also one of the things that can make or break a book. A great book with great plot and great world-building, can be ruined if the characters are horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  29. For me, I always consider the characters first, then the plot and the writing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The characters! They can either make or break the book for me! It doesn't matter how good the storyline is if the characters or basic, boring and/or hard to connect with.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  32. A good book must have great writing and characters and a plot that goes somewhere and moves you.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well-developed, flawed characters; consistency in world building and plot; tension that drives the plot; character growth (internally); descriptive (but not flowery) writing that helps paint the setting well.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  35. Very real, well-developed characters are what draw me in, preferably placed in an interesting time period and situation.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Characters are most important to me, but it has to have a good story too. I think it's more important for a book to be entertaining than perfect. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Great main characters and an engaging plot.

    ReplyDelete
  38. For me, what makes a great book is being able to identify with the characters... and crying. If the book makes me cry it will most likely get a higher rating lol.

    . Premise
    . Plot pacing

    . Writing style

    Thanks :)

  53. Great question! I would venture to say this answer is different for everyone. For me, it's character development, world building, some kind of love story and a great plot.

  56. Characters and their development i think makes a great book

    ReplyDelete
  57. Relatable characters, good plot, and the addictive factor that makes me want to keep reading.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I need to be able to relate to the characters and get lost in the storyline. The book also has to be well-written.

    ReplyDelete
  59. A great book has great characters you can relate to and empathize with also has new and mysterious situations not found in a typical life. If they are typical situations then if an author makes them memorable, that makes a good book for me.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Any book that makes me feel something makes for a good book! Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  61. good writing and interesting characters

    ReplyDelete
  62. The writing, a good may have a very interesting idea and some good characters, but if the writing isn't good, then I can't get into it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. First and foremost, keeping the reader's attention. If it can't keep a reader's attention, most readers will either DNF it or be disappointed it after they finish it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It has to grab my attention at the beginning.

    ReplyDelete
  65. The story has to be good enough to keep my attention. If I'm not engaged within the first three chapters I won't read it

    ReplyDelete

  67. Great writing, engaging characters and flow.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The author's ability to engage the reader in the story is what makes a great book. This can be accomplished many different ways: character development, plot pacing, world building, beautiful prose, ect. It is really the author's voice as a writer, that special something that makes them unique, which can make a book truly great.

    ReplyDelete
  69. intriguing characters and a fresh, engaging plot

    ReplyDelete
