Stacking the Shelves #18: July 13 – 18

I don't think much could've prepared me for this week of chaos! Every day felt like a Monday... haha. Thank goodness I have the world of YA to escape in and make it all better!

I'm waiting on sooo much book mail but it looks like it'll have to be in next week's post.

Also this week, I posted two 4-Star reviews: Breath, Annie, Breath and The Kiss of Deception!
Two very different reads but they hit the feels spot all the same.

And last but not least, the reason we're all here... This is what I added to my shelves this week...

Sooo... I won a book of my choice from Susan over at The Book Bag. Thanks Susan!
I chose Eleanor & Park since I originally read this from a borrowed copy and I have been waiting FOREVER to get my own copy. Now I finally have it, yipeee!!!!

[Hot Topic] YA that has been parading around as classical lit for too long

There's a great deal of controversy surround whether "adults" should be reading novels written for "young adults". I could rant about this in a 10-post series but I thought I'd look at the list of "greatest novels of all time" and see what's there in terms of YA.

This post has been inspired by a Tweet... this Tweet.

For reference purposes I used TIME magazine's "All-TIME 100 Novels" list, which can be found here and in no particular order (except alphabetically, so I guess that's the order).

Sound off in the comments:
What makes a novel YA?
What's missing from this list?

Novels that are not on TIME's list but I feel are worth mentioning:

Just my two cents... as I said earlier in the post, civil discourse in the comments is encouraged.

I have a particular soft spot for Scholastic books because they opened up the world of obsessive penny saving, book fairs and book catalogs. Getting that order form from my teacher was like gold. My family did not have a lot of money to spend on fun stuff like books so Scholastic was my shot at mini-christmases and to read. I distinctly remember filling plastic sandwich bags of pennies and whatever change I could find around the house to negotiate for books.
